Phi Iota Iota Chapter History

The Phi Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered in LaPlace, Louisiana in the Ninth District on December 31, 1992. Omega men in the River Parishes area (primarily St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes) came together in the spirit of brotherhood to focus Omega’s energy on the local community. The first meeting was held in May, 1992 where the names of all brothers in the area were collected. The communications process began to determine the level of interest in forming the chapter. After several more meetings to plan the process, the charter application was submitted to the Ninth District Representative on July 6, 1992, and was re-submitted on September 26, 1992. At the December 31, 1992 meeting of the Supreme Council, the charter was approved under Grand Basileus C. Tyrone Gilmore and Ninth District Representative Charles Christopher. The Phi Iota Iota Chapter Charter was presented its charter on January 29, 1993.
